Spectus, part of the UK’s largest manufacturer of high quality PVC-U products, has been awarded OHSAS 18001, the internationally recognised standard for an occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS).
Spectus was looking for a way to standardise and bring together its current health and safety, environmental and quality management systems and this has enabled them to consolidate information into one manual.
This ensures, by way of audits, that safe working practises are being adhered to, equipment is being maintained, laws and standards are being obeyed and most importantly, that the workforce have a safe working environment.
Paul Adlington, Compliance Manager at Spectus, said: ” Spectus selected the OHSAS 18001 certification to show our employees and customers that we are committed to continual improvement through the maintenance of our management systems, accident investigation and the reduction of risk in the workplace.
“In a competitive marketplace, customers are looking for more than just keen pricing from their suppliers. A company needs to demonstrate that its business is managed efficiently and responsibly and that it can provide a reliable service without excessive downtime caused by work-related accidents and incidents.
“This accreditation does just that and it provides us with a framework to consistently identify and control our health and safety risks, reduce the potential for accidents, help achieve compliance with health and safety legislation and continually improve Spectus’ performance.”
