Dungannon Eurosash Vertical Slider Gains First Ever A++ Rating With Lowest U-Value

Published: 21st April 2016

Specialist trade fabricator Dungannon Window Company LTDhas been awarded the UK’s first-ever BFRC A++ Rating for a PVC-U Vertical Slider and also achieved the lowest ever U-Value for the style, at 1.0 W/m²K.

Dungannon’s double achievement for its Eurosash Superior Triple 1.0 PVC-U window not only opens major new domestic and commercial markets for the Vertical Slider style but the low U-Value even brings the window within reach of Passivhaus standard in some buildings.

The unique window, developed in association with Spectus, uses 28mm Krypton-filled triple glazing with twin Thermobar spacers and mixed thermal and steel reinforcing, along with Eurosash’s own unique 12-part sealing system for dramatically reduced air leakage.

Dungannon Director Gary Givans says the Vertical Slider is still growing in popularity in all parts of the industry, and at the same time customers are demanding more and more energy efficient windows: “Now, for the first time, they can have both – and without compromise.”

He added that the company could still have gained the A++ label with a window U-Value of 1.1 W/m²K: “But we believe both the U-Value and Passivhaus are becoming more significant so we decided to go the extra mile. It took a lot of hard work to get there, and with a lot of support from Spectus, but the early feedback from the trade tells us the Eurosash Superior Triple 1.0 will open up whole new markets in both domestic and commercial.”

The Superior Triple 1.0 is the latest big step in Dungannon’s 17-year evolution of its Eurosash window, which has included other milestones including the first ever ‘A’ Rating for a PVC-U Vertical Slider with Spectus. It also comes as the Co Tyrone company prepares to celebrate 30 years in business.

Gary Givans explained that a building may be able to achieve Passivhaus status with a window U Value of 1.0 W/m²K, given that the glazing has a centre pane U Value of 0.7 W/m²K as well as the exceptional airtightness, along with other additional measures to meet the standard. He added that, while the BFRC Rating scale applies specifically to the UK, it is also widely recognised in the Republic of Ireland, where Dungannon also has many customers.
